Madinah

Madinah is the city of the Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) and the second holiest city in Islam after Makkah. Every Muslim who has the means to do so should try to perform the pilgrimage (Hajj) to Makkah at least once in their lifetime. The Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) said: "He who performs Hajj and does not visit me has indeed disobeyed me."Madinah is a blessed city and there are many things a pilgrim can do to make the most of their time there.

1. Pray at the Prophet's Mosque:

The Prophet's Mosque is the second holiest mosque in Islam and it was built by the Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) himself. It is an obligation for every Muslim to pray here at least once in their lifetime if they are able to do so.

 

2. Visit the graves of the Prophets:

Madinah is home to the graves of several prophets including the grave of the Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him). Pilgrims should make sure to visit these graves and pray for them.

 

3. Learn about the history of Madinah:

Madinah is a very historic city with a rich Islamic heritage. There are many museums and historical sites in Madinah that pilgrims can visit to learn more about the city's past.

 

4. Go on a shopping spree:

Madinah is known for its famous souks (traditional markets) where pilgrims can find all kinds of items, from perfumes and spices to souvenirs and traditional clothing.

 

5. Visit the Mount Uhud:

The Battle of Uhud was an important battle in Islamic history as it was the first major battle fought between the Muslims and their opponents in Arabia. Pilgrims should make sure to visit this historic mountain and learn more about its significance.

 

6. Explore Jabal Al-Nour:

Jabal Al-Nour is a small mountain located near Madinah that is home to the famous Cave of Hira, where the Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) used to meditate and receive revelation. Pilgrims should make sure to visit this site and reflect on its importance in Islamic history.

 

7. Attend prayers at Masjid Quba:

Masjid Quba is the first mosque that was built by Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) when he arrived in Madinah. Every Friday, thousands of Muslims gather at this mosque to perform the Jummah (Friday) prayer.

 

8. Enjoy the local food:

Madinah is home to some of the most delicious and unique dishes in the Middle East including Kabsa, Mandy and Majboos. Pilgrims should make sure to try some of these dishes while visiting Madinah.
